Gender violence

Gender violence is that which, as a manifestation of discrimination, the situation of inequality and power-based relationships between men and women, is applied against women by those who are or who have been their spouses or those who are or who have been linked to them through similar sentimental relationships without cohabitation.

The 016 help line is one of the decisions taken by the Spanish government to prioritise its commitment to combat gender violence.

OBSERVATORY

State Observatory of Violence Against Women

An official inter-ministerial body attached to the Ministry of Equality through the Government Department of Gender Violence, is dedicated to assessing, evaluating, establishing institutional collaboration, drawing up reports and surveys and submitting proposals to act against gender violence.

RAISING AWARENESS

The Ministry of Equality seeks to implicate society in the eradication of violence against women, inform victims of their rights and the tools at their disposal for their protection, and to instil social rejection of those guilty of abuse.
